You can prepare for awnings cleaning by doing a light cleaning to keep the debris off of the fabric. You can do this with a broom or a garden hose to remove the debris from the fabric while the fabric is on the awning frame.

You want always use mild soap for awnings cleaning, a heavy detergent can cause fading or even damage the fabric. Heavy detergents can cause aging of the fabric as well as deteriorate non-Sunbrella fabrics such as stitching. You may as well apply fabric protector to prolong the life, but it is important to avoid applying heat to the fabric as this will also cause it to deteriorate much faster. Always use warm water that does not exceed temperatures above 100°F/38°C. When drying the fabric after awnings cleaning, let it air dry and never try to apply heat to dry the fabric as this will also damage the fabric or other components of the awning.

Removing the Heavy Stains When cleaning the Sunbrella Retractable Awnings

The Sunbrella Retractable Awnings are resistant to heavy staining, but not immune. It will prove to be much easier to remove those heavy stains should it get stained for any reason. If you want to prevent the Sunbrella fabric from getting stained, you can retract the awning when not in use or not needed. This of course is not always possible and sometimes the fabric gets heavy stains from mildew, berries or other causes. You will need to prepare a solution with a mild soap and bleach. The ratio is one cup of beach and ¼ cup of detergent to one gallon of water. When you have made the solution you will want to continue the cleaning as usual with a light brush scrubbing gently to remove the stains.
